After Friday night’s 1-0 victory away at West Brom, Chelsea have finally confirmed their place at the top of the Premier League – the perfect end to an illustrious career for John Terry. Chelsea also have a chance to complete their first domestic double since 2010, when they take on Arsenal at Wembley in the FA Cup final.
As a result of Michy Batshuayi’s late winner at the Hawthorns, Antonio Conte can look ahead to bedding in some youngsters in the remaining Premier League games of the season, with the likes of Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathan Ake all looking set to rack up some more first team experience.
Terry is also set to play out the final few games of his near 20-year Chelsea career, ending in him lifting his fifth Premier League title at home to Sunderland.
Chelsea have the league’s best away record this season, as is to be expected from the champions, and subsequently, the Blues have provided some riveting encounters on the road – here are five of their best away performances this season.
Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea
The defeat instigated Antonio Conte’s infamous switch to a 3-4-3 formation and a subsequent 13 game winning run.
The performance was obviously disappointing, but it acted as a catalyst for an incredible maiden season for Conte and his players and it cannot be overlooked in terms of importance.
Manchester City 1-3 Chelsea
The best away performance of the season by a mile. Going into half-time Chelsea were 1-0 down and in need of a lift, and having seen Kevin De Bruyne come within inches of making it 2-0, the Blues endeavoured to produce a superb comeback.
Diego Costa got Chelsea back on level terms before two incredible counter-attacking goals from Willian and Eden Hazard wrapped up the three points and maintained the winning run.
It was a performance that made the rest of the Premier League stand up and take notice of what Conte was doing at Chelsea.
Stoke City 1-2 Chelsea
The Bet365 stadium is a notoriously difficult place to go, and despite that, Chelsea went there and showed fantastic spirit to secure a massive three points right at the death through Gary Cahill.
The scenes that followed that goal showed just how much it meant to both the stand in captain and the fans.
Everton 0-3 Chelsea
Everyone expected this to be the game where Chelsea slipped up, but following a slow start, a flurry of late goals coming from Pedro, Cahill and Willian virtually placed one hand on the title for the Blues.
It was, as cliches go, ‘a performance of champions’ at Goodison Park.
West Brom 0-1 Chelsea
I could have included a few different away performances to make this point, but ultimately this result secured Chelsea the title.
A scrappy 1-0 victory has been a mainstay in Chelsea’s route to the title, with matches away to Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Middlesbrough all won in a similar vein to that of Friday night’s encounter at the Hawthorns.
Michy Batshuayi came on as a late substitute to stab the ball home from Cesar Azpilicueta’s pull back.
