Chelsea secured an important three points on Sunday with a win over Manchester United.
Antonio Conte sprung a surprise with his team selection, dropping David Luiz completely, excluding him from the matchday squad. The Brazilian international was replaced by Andreas Christensen.
However, the Italian’s gamble paid off, as Chelsea produced a resilient defensive performance, as well as a promising attacking display.
It was Alvaro Morata who netted the decisive goal. Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross found his compatriot, unmarked, and the ex-Real Madrid man made no mistake with a superbly-placed header.
Tiemoue Bakayoko and Eden Hazard both had good chances for Chelsea, but United rarely challenged until the closing stages. Thibaut Courtois stopped Marouane Fellaini’s late drive, handing the Blues a vital win.
The victory keeps Chelsea in fourth place on the Premier League table, but puts just one point behind Manchester United in second, with Tottenham having also won against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
