Barcelona are likely to be Chelsea’s Last 16 opponents
The draw for the Last 16 of the Champions League takes place on Monday and Chelsea fans around the world are looking forward to seeing who the Blues will be drawn against.
At this stage of the competition, sides who won their group will face a runner-up from another group and vice versa. It’s important to note that teams can not be drawn against a side from their own country, nor can they be drawn against a side who they faced in the group stages.
What that means is that, unlike in the FA Cup draw where the chances of drawing any team are equal, the probability of facing certain clubs in the draw is actually weighted.
So, we know that Chelsea will face either PSG, Besiktas or Barcelona, but what is the probability of being drawn against each club?
The most likely Last 16 tie for the Blues is with Barcelona. There is a 43.8% chance that Antonio Conte’s men get drawn to face Lionel Messi and co.
As for PSG and Besiktas, the chances of facing either are the same; 28.1%.
So, the chances are that Chelsea will soon have a trip to the Nou Camp on the schedule. We’ll see how the draw pans out next week.
