Chelsea player ratings: Manchester City (N)

Maurizio Sarri would have learnt a lot from his squad as they were unable to stop a Manchester City squad that continued right where they left off from last season.

Two well-taken goals from Sergio Aguero were enough to see the Premier League champions come away with the Community Shield on Sunday.

Here is how we rated the Chelsea players at Wembley.

Willy Caballero – 6 – No saving Aguero’s effort. Did well to deny the striker when he tried to round him in the second half.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 5 – Looked quite far behind those around him, both in terms of fitness and in understanding of Sarri’s demands.

Antonio Rudiger – 5 – Should have closed the gap to Aguero quicker for the first goal.

David Luiz – 5 – Not sharp enough at the back, was forced to cover unnecessarily for Alonso. Couldn’t deal with the runs of Aguero.

Marcos Alonso – 4 – Concerns over his ability as a LB. Constantly allowed Mahrez to cut in. Never looked comfortable.

Jorginho – 6 – Sloppy at times but stuck to his guns and kept trying to get Chelsea on the front foot where possible.

Cesc Fabregas – 5 – He and Jorginho appear to get on top of each other.

Ross Barkley – 6 – Decent runs but final ball was lacking. Looks like he could be a useful member of Sarri’s Chelsea.

Pedro – 5 – Struggled to get his head up and pick the right pass.

Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6.5 – Timid to start but grew into the game. A good performance, all things considered.

Alvaro Morata – 4 – Offered very little and failed to make the ball stick. Appears to be playing with little to no confidence – worrying.

Substitutes

Danny Drinkwater – 5 – Didn’t make much of impact on the game. Continues to look like a player that will not be at the club for much longer.

Willian – 6 – Showed flashes of energy after coming off the bench. Much brighter than Pedro during his short time on the pitch.

Tammy Abraham – 5 – Came off the bench and looked lively but his link-up play and understanding with those around him was lacking. Should have scored late on but Bravo did well to deny him.

Victor Moses – N/A.
