Chelsea secured their third win in as many games on Sunday afternoon as they narrowly defeated Newcastle United away from home.

The Blues arrived at St James’ Park full of confidence after winning their opening fixtures against Huddersfield and Arsenal. Newcastle, meanwhile, went in search of their first win of the season.

Chelsea continued to probe a deep Newcastle side throughout the encounter and eventually found a breakthrough as Marcos Alonso was brought down in the box. Eden Hazard coolly dispatched the penalty on his return to the starting line-up, handing Chelsea a 1-0 advantage.

However, the visitors’ lead did not last long, as Newcastle clawed back an equaliser. DeAndre Yedlin, who appeared to elbow Olivier Giroud in the build-up, found Joselu with a cross and the Spaniard powered the ball high into Kepa’s net.

Chelsea were able to clinch a victory in the closing stages of the game, however, as Alonso’s attempt on goal was deflected into his own net by Newcastle defender Yedlin, handing the Blues a 2-1 victory.

Here are our Chelsea player ratings from Maurizio Sarri’s third consecutive win as boss.
