Chelsea’s summer transfer business was hurried to say the least, following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as the club’s new manager.
The Blues were able to get some big deals over the line before the window slammed shut but it was rather hectic for Sarri and the recruitment team, leaving some voids unfilled.
January is always a difficult month to deal in but it’s likely that Chelsea will look to dip into the market to further strengthen their squad at the midway point of the season.
The transfer rumours surrounding Chelsea have already begun ahead of the January window, with a host of players from Italy, notably, linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.
This is largely to do with the first-class knowledge of Serie A from Sarri, following his exploits in his homeland over recent years.
So, take a look at five players from the Italian top-flight who Chelsea should consider swooping for in January!
Belotti was superb in the 2016/17 season for Torino but struggled to follow that up last term. Nevertheless, he has performed well in the opening stages of the new season and would provide Chelsea with some much-needed quality in the centre-forward role.
Signing a player in the ilk of Roma star Florenzi would provide Chelsea with some quality in depth along with versatility. He is capable of playing in any role down the right and is also a more than impressive central midfield player.
Romagnoli put pen to paper on a new deal at AC Milan in June but appears to be the perfect fit for Chelsea. The club will be out to sign a new centre-back in January and the Italian international has the qualities on the ball and in defensive situations to significantly improve Sarri’s options.
The Roma star was linked with a move to Chelsea during the summer transfer window but the speculation came to no fruition. However, Manolas would certainly improve Chelsea’s centre-back options and a fresh January swoop would be a smart move from the Blues.
Another creative wide player could be lined up by Chelsea and if this is indeed the case, Suso fits the bill perfectly. The Spaniard is inventive and has been a standout player for AC Milan in recent seasons. He’d be a smart acquisition and would add yet more quality in depth for Sarri to choose from.
