Sarri singles out Morata for praise after Vidi win

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has praised striker Álvaro Morata after his side narrowly beat MOL Vidi 1-0 in their latest Europa League group stage tie.

The Spaniard’s struggles at the club have been well documented, with the former Juventus and Real Madrid man having struggled to find the net for the Blues on a number of occasions.

However, Sarri made sure to single out the Spain international forward for praise after the latest game, where Morata scored his first goal in European competition since September 2017.

As quoted by TeamTalk, Sarri said:

I am very happy for him to score. It was important to play a good match, I think he did that. It was important to play for the team like this evening. Álvaro can restart from this point.

I don’t want to talk about the opponents. They played their match, I think Álvaro only has to think about our match, not the opponents.

I hope [he will take confidence from it]. I think he has played very well, better than the last period and I think he can restart from this performance. Sometimes you can start from this.

He is a very important player. At the moment we have Álvaro and Giroud, but we have to play every three days for a long time, I hope. He is an important player for our season, both. Álvaro and Olivier.
