FIFA deny decision reached on potential transfer ban for Chelsea

FIFA have revealed that no decision is yet to be made over Chelsea’s potential transfer ban, with reports revealing the Blues could be banned from signing players for over two years.

As reported by Goal, it has been revealed that Chelsea could be banned from signing players after being caught signing over 14 players all under the age of 18.

This investigation began when the Blues signed Burkina Faso winger Bertrand Traore from a club in his home nation back in 2014.

However, FIFA revealed in a statement to Goal that they have not made a decision on the matter, despite reports a two year transfer ban had been decided upon.

In the statement, FIFA said:

As communicated in September 2017, investigations were opened concerning the club Chelsea FC as well as other English clubs in relation to potential breaches of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.

The proceedings are ongoing and, to date, no decision has been passed by the FIFA judicial bodies. Thus, the clubs are to be presumed innocent unless decided otherwise.

No further information can be provided as the cases are ongoing. Any update will be communicated in due course.

Chelsea themselves have denied any wrongdoing in the signing of Traore, who left the Blues to join Lyon in 2017.
