Maurizio Sarri tells Gary Cahill he can leave in January

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has told Gary Cahill that he can leave the club in January, according to reports.

The former England international has been linked with numerous teams, such as Aston Villa and AC Milan, and it seems like he’ll be able to make a switch when the January transfer window opens.

With David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger clearly being Sarri’s prefered central defensive duo, game time has been limited for Cahill and aged 32, he wants to be playing regularly rather than be sitting on the bench.

There will be no shortage of clubs interested in Cahill, who has won six major honours since joining Chelsea in January 2012, should he be available as is expected.

Cahill is Chelsea’s backup option to Luiz and Rudiger but with Andreas Christensen as cover, Sarri seems happy enough to let his experienced centre-back seek a new challenge
