Four Findings: Malmo 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea narrowly defeated Malmo in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 fixture on Thursday night.

The Blues travelled to Sweden following their humiliating 6-0 defeat away at Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and were out to make amends after their shortcomings.

Maurizio Sarri rotated his side, and after periods of possession, they found their way past Malmo’s defensive line.

Ross Barkley opened the scoring for the visitors as he poked home on the half-hour mark. The lead was extended in the 58th minute, as Olivier Giroud marked his return to the starting line-up with a deft finish to make it 2-0.

Malmo fought their way back into the game and netted with 10 minutes of normal time to go, as Anders Christiansen pulled a goal back for the hosts.

However, it was Chelsea who came away from the first leg with the advantage ahead of the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Here are four findings from the match.
