Chelsea are facing an uncertain summer ahead of next season.
The Blues are currently at a crossroads. Maurizio Sarri has underwhelmed as the club’s manager, with unrest among the supporters growing.
It would appear that the Italian requires more players who suit his demanding style of play, indicating that further recruitment in the summer transfer window is necessary.
However, this is not a plausible avenue for Chelsea to explore. The club are entering a transfer ban that will last for two windows, meaning that they will be forced to work with what they currently have on the books.
This could mean that the Blues push to secure the futures of their players, and they may need to do this sooner rather than later, with five senior figures set to depart at the end of their deals this summer.
Take a look at the players who currently look likely to exit Stamford Bridge at the end of the season on free transfers!
Caballero arrived on a short-term deal from Manchester City and could be set to depart in the summer. He’s played second fiddle to Kepa Arrizabalaga but is a reliable backup option.
Luiz is a regular for Sarri, and Chelsea aren’t likely to be keen on losing him. The centre-back’s contract expires this summer, but he has played throughout the season alongside Antonio Rudiger in central defence.
Giroud is the leading goalscorer in the Europa League this season, but he could be set to seek pastures new this summer. He’s not played regularly enough under Sarri, and a move away from Stamford Bridge could be on the cards as his contract continues to run down.
Green was recruited to add experience to the Chelsea squad. His contract expires in the summer, and it’d be somewhat confusing if the club opt to extend his stay.
Cahill has seen his opportunities limited by Sarri, and therefore, a summer departure seems inevitable. Plenty of clubs will be interested in securing a free transfer for the central defender.
