Chelsea will be desperate to conclude negotiations with Frank Lampard and appoint him as the club’s new manager in the immediate future.
The Blues have been angling for the confirmation of their former midfielder’s return to Stamford Bridge for some time now, and ahead of pre-season commencing, they will be keen to wrap up the deal.
Lampard had a reasonably impressive first season in professional management. He led Derby County to the play-offs, where they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League after Aston Villa defeated them 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium.
However, he has displayed enough already to convince the Chelsea hierarchy of his qualities, and they have identified him as the top target to replace Maurizio Sarri, who has joined Juventus.
Lampard will work within the limitations of a transfer ban for the current and next window, indicating that he will need to extract the very most from the options currently at his disposal.
