French national team boss Didier Deschamps has revealed he believes Chelsea are making a mistake by not playing striker Olivier Giroud.

The forward netted from the penalty spot as France secured a 2-1 win over Moldova in Paris, with Deschamps trusting Giroud despite his lack of appearances.

Deschamps said, via Goal:

What he doesn’t have at Chelsea, he has here with us.

He remains in the starting XI, and it’s not just been today or yesterday, it’s been a long time. Even when he has periods when he scores fewer goals, he allows the players around him to have opportunities and to score goals too.

Giroud may be trusted by France, but for Chelsea Tammy Abraham is very much the number one choice.

This looks like a dig at Frank Lampard, who has stuck by his young forward and his reaped the rewards, with Abraham leading the scoring charts for the Blues.

It looks very likely that Giroud will depart the Blues this January, which will seemingly please Deschamps.

Should Giroud be sold in January?
