Why Jadon Sancho is a perfect fit for Chelsea

Jadon Sancho is undoubtedly one of world football’s most exciting prospects, as the Englishman is reaching heights at the age of 19 that many players fail to achieve in their careers.

The Borussia Dortmund forward has attracted the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid and former club Manchester City. However, the move that looks the most suitable for Sancho is a transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard’s style of play

Since beginning his tenure as manager of Chelsea, Lampard has undeniably exceeded all expectations that Blues fans had, as his side currently sit third in the Premier League, above reigning champions Manchester City. With Lampard’s continuous development into the youth system, Sancho would instantly settle into South West London.

Chelsea’s transfer ban may well have played a large part in the use of the youngsters in the squad, but judging by Lampard’s first season in management at Derby County, he does have a preference for the younger players, with the likes of Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and Fikayo Tomori succeeding at Derby last season.

Much to the delight of the Blues boss, Tomori and Mount are both at Chelsea now and are both in excellent form. For any young player outside of Stamford Bridge, the current project at Chelsea is sure to be appealing. This could be a positive factor in the possible move for Sancho.

Sancho is guaranteed playing time at Chelsea, and that can’t be said for the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona, as youngsters at the two Spanish giants appear to be out of favour, such as Luka Jovic and Ousmane Dembele. A move away from Germany looks imminent, and Sancho is most likely Premier League-bound. Lampard and almost every Chelsea fan would love to see the Blues secure the deal when the opportunity arises.

Sancho is familiar with the Chelsea squad

Another factor that sways Sancho towards Stamford Bridge is the fact he is already familiar with many members of the Chelsea squad. The 19-year-old has grown up with the likes of Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James when playing for England’s youth team, and he was an Under 17s World Cup winner alongside Chelsea players Hudson-Odoi, Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher.

Sancho has also recently spent a lot of time with the Chelsea youngsters on International duty with England, which may have allowed certain discussions to take place. Sancho also played alongside Christian Pulisic at Dortmund last season, so he would certainly not be a stranger.

Sancho’s stats

Sancho secured himself an astounding 13 goals and 19 assists in all competitions last season, which for an 18-year-old is astonishing. He also has four goals and eight assists in just 16 games in all competitions this season and does not look like he’s finished. The youngster has set a real example for other young players, and the reward may very well be a place in Chelsea’s starting 11 next season. If Chelsea are able to sign players in January, as a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport awaits, then they should use the money from the departures of Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata to entice Jadon Sancho towards Stamford Bridge.
