Chelsea make offer for Rijeka midfielder Ivan Lepinjica

Chelsea have made an offer in the region of €3m to €4m for Rijeka midfielder Ivan Lepinjica.

That’s according to Croatian website Tportal, relayed in an article by Sports Witness, who claim that the Blues have made an initial offer for the 20-year-old, with Rijeka holding out for €5m.

Lepinjica has made 17 appearances for Rijeka in all competitions this season (Transfermarkt), while also turning out for Croatia’s Under-21 outfit.

The report claims that several sides are keen on Lepinjica, including Championship leaders Leeds United and Italian heavyweights Juventus.

Lepinjica has impressed in the Croatian top flight, but Chelsea’s reported bid has caught us by surprise.

Frank Lampard has placed his trust in the youth so far this season, however, with the club available to make signings this month, they could benefit from a few senior additions.

It’s obvious that the young midfielder has plenty of potential though, with several sides tracking his situation.

Lepinjica is known for his tough tackling and energetic displays in the heart of the midfield, an area which Lampard could do with strengthening over the coming weeks.

Reports revealed back in May that Tottenham sent scouts to watch Lepinjica in action, so actually, if Chelsea can pull off a deal in the region of €5m, it could turn out to be an excellent piece of business further down the line.
