Chelsea Player Ratings: Bayern Munich (H)

Chelsea’s Champions League dreams were left in tatters after Bayern Munich scored three second-half goals to expose the comprehensive gulf in class between the two sides.

It was evident almost from the first whistle that Chelsea, unchanged from the weekend’s win over Tottenham, were up against it with Bayern’s movement and impressive ball retention.

Willy Caballero kept his place in the side for the third consecutive game, and it was the veteran keeper’ who ensured the Blues went into the break level after producing a string of saves from close range.

Optimism began to set in as Chelsea ended the half strongly. This optimism soon turned to complacency, however, and ill-judged defensive positioning from Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta saw Bayern race into a two-goal lead courtesy of Serge Gnabry.

Frank Lampard’s men never looked likely to grab any form of consolation and it was no surprise when Robert Lewandowski ghosted in at the back post to all but settle the tie in favour of the Bavarian outfit before Marcos Alonso was then dismissed for hitting out at the Polish forward.

Here’s how we rated the Blues after the defeat…
