Chelsea in ‘advanced talks’ with PSG’s Thiago Silva

Chelsea are in ‘advanced talks’ over the free transfer of Thiago Silva from PSG, as per a Liam Twomey of The Athletic.

The Blues have reportedly held talks with the experienced centra defender over a move to Stamford Bridge when his contract with PSG runs out following Sunday’s Champions League final with Bayern Munich.

The PSG captain will lead his side out in Sunday’s final in Lisbon in his final match for the club. It is now believed that he has been offered to Chelsea and that a move has been discussed between the club and his representatives.

Brazilian international Silva, 35, has received offers from numerous clubs, including Italian side Fiorentina.

Despite his advancing years, it is thought that Silva is hoping to secure a two-year deal at his next club after spending eight years at PSG.

A potential sticking point as Chelsea recently allowed fellow Brazilian Willian to leave the club over his contract length demands so it remains to be seen if they’d be willing to give Silva the deal he is after.

It seems Frank Lampard is close to landing his man, yet another summer arrival as Chelsea attempt to bridge the gap between them and the top of the table next season.

All of Lampard’s first-team ready reinforcements thus far have been attacking options, Silva’s arrival could go a long way to during up the defensive frailties that let the Blues down on so many occasions last season.

Not only does the 89 times capped Brazilian solve a defensive issue, his free transfer means money can continue to be spent elsewhere improving the overall squad.

matchday.
