Following yet another change in their managerial position, Chelsea are looking for a change in their fortunes as well during the final few games left to play this season. They will take on Nottingham Forest, still in a relegation battle, at Stamford Bridge today.
This will be interim manager Calum McFarlane’s first big challenge since taking over the Blues for the second time in the span of three months following the crucial victory against Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-finals last weekend.
The Blues are hoping for a change in their results and performances as they gear up for the final few fixtures left of this season to play. Even if the Champions League is realistically out of reach, European qualification can still be gained.
Chelsea team news
McFarlane could be handed a double boost for today’s tie as captain Reece James and long-time absentee Levi Colwill have returned to training. Could they be in line for some minutes?
Colwill is yet to feature for the Blues this season following his ACL injury back in pre-season. But his presence in the squad would definitely provide some much-needed depth for McFarlane to utilise during the pivotal games ahead, even if he should not be starting games yet.
On the other hand, the likes of Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens have been ruled out for the rest of the season. As for goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, the Danish international’s return date is still being assessed by the club management, although he is not expected back in action anytime soon either.
Head-to-head record
The Blues seemingly have a clear advantage over Nottingham Forest in the past fixtures between the two sides as per the records:

Nottingham Forest won: 27
Draws: 31

The Blues’ recent form is definitely a concern going into the game but they would be hopeful of a positive result following the team’s crucial victory over Leeds United in the FA Cup.
A win today can provide a base for the Blues to build on for the couple of crucial games ahead as following the game against Nottingham Forest, they would take on Liverpool in the Premier League and Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup.
