Chelsea have agreed to sell David Datro Fofana to Servette on a permanent deal worth up to €3.5million, finally ending the striker’s three-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from Molde in January 2023 but never established himself as a regular first-team player.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Servette have completed an agreement to sign Fofana for an initial €2.5m, with a further €1m available in add-ons.
Chelsea finally end Datro Fofana spell
Chelsea have been trying to secure a permanent exit for Fofana throughout the summer.
ReadChelsea reported back in June that the forgotten striker was expected to leave Chelsea permanently, after another season spent away from Stamford Bridge.
That decision has now been made.
Romano described the agreement as the end of Fofana’s Chelsea chapter, with Servette completing a permanent deal rather than another temporary move.
The Ivorian made only four senior appearances for Chelsea after arriving from Molde.
His time under contract subsequently included loan spells with Union Berlin, Burnley, Goztepe, Fatih Karagumruk and Strasbourg.
Chelsea originally paid around £11m to sign him, meaning the Servette deal represents a sizeable financial loss.
However, a permanent transfer finally removes a player who had little realistic route into Xabi Alonso’s first-team plans.
Chelsea continue final squad clear-out
Fofana’s departure is part of a significant late-window clear-out.
Chelsea have already sanctioned a number of exits while Alonso attempts to bring the squad closer to his preferred size.
The club’s summer transfer tracker has documented a busy window of sales and loans, with further movement still expected before the deadline.
Mamadou Sarr has also completed a loan move to Real Sociedad, while Nicolas Jackson is closing in on his permanent transfer to Aston Villa.
Fofana’s situation is more definitive.
After years of loans and uncertainty, Chelsea have finally made the permanent decision both parties needed.
Servette now offer the forward the chance to settle at one club and rebuild his career away from Stamford Bridge.
