Chelsea striker Shim Mheuka scores after just NINE minutes as England see off France

Chelsea striker Shim Mheuka scored after just nine minutes as England Under-20s beat France 2-1 on Tuesday, securing their second successive U20 Elite League victory.

The 18-year-old, currently on loan at Celtic, opened the scoring at the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano in Spain.

According to England’s official match report, Mheuka collected a long ball from goalkeeper Oliver Whatmuff before finishing past Mathys Niflore.

Mikey Moore doubled England’s advantage five minutes later. Prosper Peter pulled one back after the break, but England held on to follow their opening win over Italy.

Mheuka played 74 minutes, while fellow Chelsea loanee Jesse Derry came off the bench in the second half.

The international appearance provides another opportunity for Mheuka to build experience during his first senior loan campaign.

ReadChelsea covered Celtic’s deadline-day move for the striker before Chelsea confirmed both his departure and a new contract running until 2031.

The Blues’ official loan announcement highlighted his 18 goals in 19 Premier League 2 appearances last season, when he won the competition’s Player of the Season award.

He also has nine senior Chelsea appearances, having made his debut against Astana in December 2024.

England next face Germany on Saturday, 3 October, with kick-off scheduled for 4.30pm BST.
