Chelsea sign Leo Black until 2028 after trial goals against Arsenal and Fulham

Chelsea have signed Leo Black on a contract until 2028 after the 20-year-old scored against Arsenal and Fulham during a successful trial.

The club’s official announcement confirms the deal following his appearances for Cobham Next Gen, Chelsea’s development side.

Black can operate at full-back or in midfield and has represented England at Under-18 and Under-19 levels.

Leo Black Chelsea signing follows scoring start

Black first appeared for Cobham Next Gen in August’s 5-4 victory over West Ham.

He subsequently contributed goals to wins against Arsenal and Fulham before the international break, giving Chelsea an opportunity to assess him in competitive matches.

Those performances also earned him a nomination for September’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The contract now secures his place beyond that initial assessment period, with his versatility offering options across defence and midfield.

Chelsea trio await PL2 award decision

Black features on the eight-player shortlist alongside Reggie Watson and Chizaram Ezenwata.

Watson scored three times across September’s two PL2 matches, while Ezenwata supplied two assists in the victory over Fulham.

Watson’s progress has also taken him into the senior side, with his appearance against Leeds earning a place among Chelsea’s youngest first-team debutants.

The PL2 award winner will be announced on Friday 2 October.
