Naomi Girma could miss weeks for Chelsea as Bompastor reveals TWO possible returns against West Ham

Chelsea defender Naomi Girma could miss several weeks after suffering a knock in training, Sonia Bompastor has revealed.

The head coach explained the American’s absence following Wednesday’s goalless Champions League draw at Lyon.

“Naomi got a knock in training,” Bompastor told Chelsea’s official website. “So I think she will be unavailable for maybe a few weeks.”

She did not give a firm return date.

Cuthbert and Matsukubo could face West Ham

Erin Cuthbert and Manaka Matsukubo are back in full training and could feature at West Ham on Sunday. Their involvement is not yet confirmed.

The pair were among the three players Chelsea ruled out of August’s Real Sociedad qualifier.

Katie McCabe missed Lyon through illness. Bompastor also planned to check on Hannah Hampton after the goalkeeper completed the game despite a late collision.

Chelsea head into the London derby after five consecutive clean sheets. Veerle Buurman came into the starting XI against Lyon, where Hampton’s late save from Ada Hegerberg helped secure a point.
