Chelsea are set to complete a £16.3million Pep Chavarria deal after making another breakthrough in negotiations with Rayo Vallecano. The Blues have spent more than a month working on an agreement for Xabi Alonso’s preferred left-back target. The clubs are now finalising the remaining details, with the initial fee understood to be around £16.3m before […]
Chelsea suffered a 1-0 pre-season defeat against Juventus in Hong Kong as Edon Zhegrova scored the only goal of a quiet contest. Xabi Alonso’s side saw plenty of possession but struggled to create clear opportunities against a compact Juventus defence. There were still several positives for Chelsea. Geovany Quenda impressed on his first appearance, while […]
Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli strengthened his case for further Chelsea opportunities with an impressively mature performance against Juventus, completing 96% of his passes during Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat. There was little to celebrate about the result in Hong Kong, but the 16-year-old provided another reason for Xabi Alonso to be encouraged. Nicoll-Jazuli was trusted alongside Moises Caicedo from […]
Moises Caicedo looked as though he had never been away as Chelsea slipped to a 1-0 pre-season defeat against Juventus in Hong Kong. Edon Zhegrova’s excellent second-half finish separated the teams in a game short on clear chances, although there were encouraging performances from several of Xabi Alonso’s younger players. Chelsea controlled plenty of possession […]
Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat by Juventus will not live long in the memory, but there were still a few useful clues for Xabi Alonso as pre-season continues. Alonso was already without two of his […]

Neither Palmer nor Colwill features in Wednesday’s pre-season friendly at Kai Tak Stadium, although there is currently no suggestion either has suffered a serious […]
Nicolas Jackson’s Chelsea future remains uncertain as Aston Villa and Tottenham consider moves, but new data underlines why selling the striker could still come back to haunt the Blues. Jackson returned to Stamford Bridge after scoring 11 times during his loan spell at Bayern Munich last season. Chelsea now have significantly more competition in attack, […]
Chelsea have 10 senior centre-backs available to Xabi Alonso, but that number could be almost halved before the transfer window closes. Maxence Lacroix’s £52million arrival from Crystal Palace has increased an already crowded defensive department. Alonso has made little attempt to hide the fact that departures are required, indicating that four or five centre-backs would […]
Chelsea will not need to register Geovany Quenda or Marco Palestra in their 25-man Premier League squad next season despite both players being part of Xabi Alonso’s first-team plans. Alonso has overseen another significant overhaul at Stamford Bridge, with several new players arriving and further business expected before the transfer window closes. Managing those numbers […]
