Both Oscar and Diego Costa were on the score sheet in a captivating first half performances from the five star blues.
With Thibaut Courtois still suffering from injury, Petr Cech continued in goal. Gary Cahill returned to starting line up in for Kurt Zouma. Filipe Luis also came into the starting line-up instead of the injured Cesar Azpilicueta.
It was an electrical start in the Liberty Stadium, with less than a minute on the clock Oscar managed to put the ball in the back of the net with a powerful low driven shot after sloppy play from Swansea. Swansea responded well, almost immediately Sigurdsson struck the crossbar from a 30 yard strike. Nearly making up for his mistake that lead to Chelsea’s opener.
Chelsea were keen to continue as they started, in just the twelfth minute Swansea keeper Lukasz Fabianski couldn’t hold Oscar’s shot , it fell to Willian who couldn’t follow up the rebound. After a spell of patient Chelsea build up play, Cesc Fabregas claimed his 15th assist of the season as Diego Costa who slotted home for his 16th goal of the season as the game approached the twenty minute mark.
Swansea failed to get to grips with Chelsea’s attacking play, Mourinho’s men looked lively in every attack. Willian also hit the post after a powerful effort. As the thirty minute mark was passed, Swansea became the architects of their own downfall. After attempting to play out of from the back, Argentinian central defender gave the ball away with an under hit back pass, Diego Costa pounced and managed to put the ball into the near post to make it 3-0.
Just over a minute later, Chelsea immediately won the ball back. From a Willian pass out wide, Diego Costa pulled the ball back to the edge of the area and Fabianski was unable to stop Oscar’s curling effort from outside of the box. Oscar’s second made it 4-0 before half time.
As the half time whistle approached, Diego Costa took the ball around Swansea keeper Fabianski from a fantastic volleyed pass from Fabregas, eventually taking the ball wider than he would have hoped. Denying himself a first half hat trick, he then found Willian in the area whose attempt rattled the bar.
The Second half started with a much slower tempo, with only a few half chances. Chelsea likely to have one eye of the Capital One Cup Semi Final tie against Liverpool on Tuesday. With just over twenty minutes remaining on the clock, Eden Hazard’s powerful effort could only find the hands of Lukas Fabianski from the edge of the box. As the game passed the 70th minute mark, Mourinho brought Remy and Ramires on for Fabregas and Costa in an attempt to increase the tempo of the game. Andre Schurrle also came on for Willian.
The substitutions made instant impact with just over ten minutes left to play. Andre Schurrle made it five after Branislav Ivanovic squared the ball to the German who could not miss. It finished 5-0 after a fantastic first half performance which saw Chelsea secured their biggest win of the season so far, against a Swansea side that could never really contain Chelsea and did not manage to register a single shot on target. The victory see’s Chelsea go five points clear at the top of the table with Manchester City having a game in hand.
