It was the news that all Chelsea fans were very much waiting to hear, the news that Eden Hazard committed himself to Chelsea for the next five and a half years. The Belgium winger has signed a new contract extension that keeps at Stamford Bridge until 2021.
Over the course of this season, Hazard has grown in stature around Chelsea. He has soon become one of Chelsea’s most valuable assets. Speculation has been growing and growing over recent weeks over a new £200,000 a week deal. The exact figure of Hazard’s wage is still unknown but with rumours of interest from Real Madrid, Chelsea were eager to secure the services of their tricky Belgian winger. Jose Mourinho and Hazard himself spoke of their delight to have the contract signed.
Hazard told Sky Sports “I am very happy to have signed a new contact with Chelsea”. Hazard has proved his importance to Chelsea by starting in every league game this season, he has currently scored thirteen goals in all competitions. Hazard went on to say “The manager has helped me improve a lot, the fans support has been fantastic”.
Mourinho added: “He is already a top player and his evolution has been fantastic. He is still very young and become the best”.
