Hi Matt, Welcome to TheStamfordShed. It’s great to speak to you ahead of Saturday’s game, we like to find out about how our opposition fans started supporting their beloved clubs.
Could you tell us where your love for Southampton started?
Yeah, I moved to Southampton when I was younger and went to games. Just fell in love with the club.
I’ll be honest, like many I feared the worst for Southampton during the ‘exodus’. What was that like as a fan to see your best players leaving one after another?
Gutting, but it was for the best. No player is bigger than the club and look where we are now fighting for champions league place.
Southampton find themselves right in the mix for a top four finish? Do you think the club is ready for a top four finish?
Perhaps not top four, but I think we can make Europe.
If you fail to reach the top four, it is highly likely you will finish inside the Europa League spot. Teams who finish inside the Europa League are notoriously known for struggling the following seasons? We have seen this with Swansea and Everton more recently. What are your thoughts on that?
If we do, we need depth. Something we haven’t got at the moment so hopefully, if we do qualify, the club board will bring loads of new class player to the club.
Morgan Schneiderlin has been constantly linked with the top clubs in the Premier League, at times Chelsea have been mentioned. How good do you think he can be?
One of the best CDM in the league at the minute. He has earn’t it and as much as I don’t want him to leave, if he did I’d be happy for him.
From the view of a Southampton fan, where do you see Chelsea’s biggest threat coming from?
Hazard, just Hazard. I watched him at St. Mary’s earlier on in the season and he was sensational.
Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League during the week, do you feel this is the perfect time to play Chelsea?
Not all, they will want to bounce back and I’m sure Mourinho will be tough before the game.
You secured Ryan Bertrand on a permanent deal in January, could you talk us through how he has developed since the start of the season?
I don’t think he has developed. He was always class but never really got the opportunities. He has been a fantastic replacement for Shaw.
He was a fan favourite at Chelsea, especially after his performance in the Champions League. How have Southampton fans taken to him?
Very well, you can see he loves the club and that’s all a fan wants from the player.
Finally, Chelsea travelled to St.Mary’s in December and it finished 1-1. Which I must say we were extremely lucky to get anything from after a very spirited performance from yourself. How do you see the game going?
To be honest, its too tough to call, but if I had too: Chelsea will be the more likely to get a result.
