The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Thursday that Chelsea are very close to confirming their participation in a postseason friendly that will take place on 2nd June at the massive 83,500 capacity ANZ Stadium in Sydney, Australia. According to reports, the Blues would be facing off against Sydney FC.
The club has already confirmed that it will be participating in the North-American edition of this year’s Guinness International Champions Cup. Other than that, there have been no official announcements of José Mourinho’s summer plans to prepare his squad for next season.
However, there have recently been some ramblings of a possible summer tour in Japan. These rumours have most likely been fueled by Chelsea’s big money partnership with Yokohama that was struck back in February.
If Chelsea were to play in this Australian friendly, there’s a large possibility that some players will be excluded due to international commitments. Gary Cahill will likely be called upon by Roy Hodgson for England’s match with Ireland two days later. The Blues will also likely be without their Brazilian entourage and Colombian Juan Cuadrado, who will be busy preparing for the Copa América which is set to start on 11th June.
