Similar to the agreement between Chelsea and Vitesse Arnhem from the Eredivisie, Marseille are thought to be interested on bringing a number of Chelsea’s youngest prospects to Ligue 1. Reports from The Independent claim, a deal was established after Marseille president Vicent Labrune attended the second leg of the FA Youth Cup final earlier this month.
It was reported that Labrune later that night had dinner with Chelsea’s technical director, Michael Emenalo. Labrune told The Independent: “I told him a club like Marseille was very interested to build something with a club like Chelsea and have some of the young players on loan”. He went on to add: “Players who have big potential but cannot get into the first in the Premier League, they come here on loan and the English club pays part of the salary.”
A deal between the two clubs would be more beneficial for Chelsea when compared against the deal with Vitesse Arnhem, which hasn’t proved the most successful over recent years. The president of Marseille revealed he has three players in mind which are believed to be Charly Musonda, Jeremie Boga and Bertrand Traore. Although, he did not give much away by adding: “I can’t tell you the names of the Chelsea players.”
Any deal that would take place could be a positive move for any young player. The reputation of Ligue 1 is quickly rebuilding and boasts a much higher standard of football compared to the Eredivisie. Players would also gain an opportunity to compete in Europe with Marsielle still fighting for a Champions League spot. It will also offer Chelsea a chance to send other young players away on loan, including the likes of new signing Nathan to aid their process of obtaining a work permits, at the same as playing at a high standard.
