Jose Mourinho has revealed he was worried for John Terry’s future at Chelsea when he returned as manager. Before Jose Mourinho returned last season, John Terry was on the fringes of the Chelsea first team, with his game time limited.
During Rafa Benitiez’s time at Chelsea, many believed we were seeing the end of John Terry’s Chelsea career. The Spaniard claimed that John Terry could not manage to play two games in a week. Mourinho has revealed the harsh reality of John Terry’s situation during the time of his arrival: “I thought he was in trouble. I thought he was over, he hadn’t played for the previous two years, two or three consecutive matches. I thought there was something wrong and that he couldn’t get back to his normal level.”
Since Jose Mourinho’s return, John Terry has been integral to Chelsea’s success. Terry has played every minute of every league game this season and has led Chelsea to the Premier League trophy as well as the Capital One Cup, where he scored in the final at Wembley.
Mourinho was quoted saying: “I think he knows that, without me, he probably wouldn’t be at Chelsea in this moment.” After admitting he saved Terry’s Chelsea career, Mourinho was quick to show his appreciation for his captain: “But I also know that, probably without him, I would not be again Premier League champion.
