Chelsea are reportedly monitoring Alex Song’s future. Song joined West Ham on loan this season and impressed many during the first half of the season. However during the second half of the season, Song has struggled and looks to have lost the chance to join West Ham on a permanent basis. The midfielder could be available on another loan or could return to the Premier League permanently.
This has put Chelsea and Manchester City on alert as they could look to Song for as a squad player. Importantly, Alex Song qualifies as a home grown player, something both Chelsea and City will look to increase within their squad.
Reports suggest that Chelsea could look at Song to provide an experienced back up to Nemanja Matic as they look to continue the development of Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Strength in depth is something Chelsea have been questioned on during the season, especially with Jose Mourinho deploying Kurt Zouma in midfield on a number of occasions. Despite having a mixed season at West Ham, Song could prove a useful signing and whilst he is not seen as a priority by Chelsea, he would definitely add strength in depth.
