Reports have emerged today that Eden Hazard will miss Chelsea’s final league game this Sunday due to an emergency dental procedure. Hazard tried to delay the surgery that required removing three of his wisdom teeth beyond the end of the season but the procedure had to be brought forward.
The Football Writers’ Association have confirmed this news. A statement on their website says Hazard will be unable to collect his Footballer of the Year award in person tonight as he remains in ‘considerable pain’. To cover for Hazard’s non-appearance Chairman Bruce Buck will deliver a message from the player and former Chelsea favourite Gianfranco Zola will pay tribute to the Belgian.
The news that Hazard will ‘almost certainly miss Chelsea’s final game’ is a big blow for the player and the team. This will be the first league game Hazard will have missed in a season where he has been instrumental in Chelsea claiming their first Premier League title in five years.
The club are yet to confirm this, but the news is likely to be delivered by Jose Mourinho in his pre-match press conference tomorrow. Even if Eden Hazard does not feature on the pitch, hopefully he is well enough to be involved in Chelsea’s title winning celebrations.
