José Mourinho has recently confessed that his claims that there was evidence of a ‘clear campaign’ against Chelsea administered by the FA were wrong – well, kinda. It was after the 1-1 draw with Southampton at St. Mary’s that the Chelsea boss couldn’t help but unleash his feelings on the underlying issue at hand. What pushed the Portuguese over the edge was Cesc Fàbregas receiving a yellow card for ‘diving’ in the penalty area after a clear foul in the box had taken place. If Hazard had stepped up and hammered home the penalty that should have been given, the three points would likely have gone to the Blues. As well as stating that a ‘clear campaign’ had been taking place, José also noted, “People, pundits, commentators, coaches from other teams – they react with Chelsea in a way they don’t react with other teams. They put lots of pressure on the referee and the referee makes a mistake like this”. Mourinho was later fined £25,000 for voicing his thoughts that day.
After being named Premier League Manager of the Season, José Mourinho just about revealed that he feels as though he was wrong to say such a thing. However, it turns out he actually just regrets his choice of words. “Maybe ‘campaign’ is not a nice word,” he said. “It’s a word which was even the subject of punishment because the word was strong. My feeling was that we had lots of mistakes against us that punished us in crucial matches in a crucial period – December, January. I would take the word ‘campaign’ (out) if the same happened next season. It would be out of my vocabulary. But that feeling is clear. We had lots of decisions against us.”
Despite there supposedly being a ‘campaign against Chelsea’, the west London outfit will officially return the Barclays Premier League trophy to the nation’s capital on Sunday. The Blues were also able to bag the League Cup back in March, making the 2014/2015 season a successful one. The ‘campaign’ may have slowed Chelsea Football Club down at certain points, but Mourinho’s men have been unstoppable this season and will have the chance to celebrate their achievements this weekend.
