In the final game of the season, what better way to end it by lifting the trophy in front of your home fans, like Chelsea did on Sunday. In a game that the Blues won 3-1, coming from 0-1 down. here are my Four Findings.
Farewell Didier:
Just before the game, our legend announced that today would be his final game in a Blues shirt, and what a way to end it. The Ivorian has given so much over the years, it was just right for him to be the captain today, and then get a sending off he fully deserves. Fair play that he wants 1 more year of football, that he knows we can’t promise him here. He’s realistic, an honest. Mourinho will bring him back after next season on the coaching set-up, and that would be instrumental for the likes of Izzy Brown and Dominic Solanke. It was unfortuante Drogba couldn’t score v the Black Cats, but it was ‘meant to be’ that he could get his farewell from the Stamford Bridge faithful.
Petr Cech – what’s going to happen?
As we all know, the media have been constantly linking our Petr Cech to various different clubs in the summer, including Arsenal. However, after the game, both himself and Mourinho were sounding pretty confident that actually, something may still be on the cards here for the ‘keeper. It will be a shame if/when Cech leaves, because again, he has done everything for us. Without him in our UEFA Champions League run back in 2012, do we really think we would of won it? He was instrumental, and there’s no doubt about it. Like Drogba, imagine bringing Cech back if he leaves to join the coaching side with Hilario. Again, would be fantastic for the likes of Blackman and Beeney. And hey, Messi still doesn’t know how to score past you, Petr!
Cuadrado – the debate:
Right, so. Juan Cuadrado. On the back of his first half season in England, I’m not sure what many Chelsea fans seem to think. Was Jose right to replace Andre Schurrle with this Colombian, who hasn’t really impressed since joining from Fiorentina? I understand that it takes some time to settle into the Premier League, but at a top club like Chelsea, we’re going to need players who can settle asap. Look at Diego as your prime example. Cuadrado won us the penalty v Sunderland that Costa slotted home, and that was really the first time since he’s joined that I’ve watched him trying to beat players. Next season, let’s hope he can fulfil his potential, otherwise I can’t see him lasting long.
Squad Togetherness:
For once, I can sit here and write that Chelsea as a club, looks together. Plenty of respect between Jose and Roman Abramovich. But more importantly, our squad looks together, in every aspect. It’s a tough one to sit and explain – but it feels like this squad have been playing together for years on end, and they haven’t. Everyone is starting to excel in their own positions, which build-up so the whole squad looks as tough as it can. You know it’s a Jose Mourinho said when we didn’t lose at home in the Premier League all season.
Congratulations everyone – we are champions!
