Beginning with the strictly sports-related news, Cesc Fàbregas will be pleased to have undergone a successful operation to repair his broken nose. Stoke City’s Charlie Adam inflicted the injury during a clash in early April, forcing the Spanish international to play the remainder of the season wearing a protective mask. While the mask will be most fondly remembered for its appearance in Cesc’s last minute winner at Loftus Road, it will no longer be of use as confirmed by Chelsea’s official website.
“The midfielder had been having difficulty breathing as a result of the injury he sustained during our game against Stoke last month but after the successful operation the problem has been resolved.”
The surgery will still prevent the ‘man wearing a magic hat’ from performing in Chelsea’s post-season tour friendlies against Thailand All Stars and Sydney FC. Although, Spain coach Vicente del Bosque revealed that Fàbregas is expected to feature in Spain’s upcoming matches against Costa Rica and Belarus.
Yet Chelsea’s playmaker will be far less pleased to hear that he has now acquired a £1,000 fine with an additional six points on his license. The ex-Barcelona man failed to identity the driver of his Aston Martin Vanquish when pulled over by the police on October 27, the day after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United. The 28-year-old will also be required to pay a £100 victim surcharge and costs of £85 at Staines Magistrates’ Court. Fàbregas chose not to appear in court and has been ordered to pay the court costs by Friday 5 June.
