According to the Daily Express, Chelsea will join the Liverpool the race to sign Belgian striker Christian Benteke from Aston Villa. However neither team are wanting to match the massive £32.5m release clause that was revealed this week. Chelsea are looking to negotiate a price closer to £20m.
Chelsea are in the market for a third striker with Didier Drogba coming to the end of his contract. We also brought you the news recently that Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Radamel Falcao.
Benteke has been in fine form since Tim Sherwood took over at Aston Villa, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by some of the top Premier League sides. Benteke was identified as a target as he can provide similarities to Chelsea’s current hit-man, Diego Costa. Chelsea could edge out Liverpool in the race for Benteke’s signature with the lure of Champions League football, something that Liverpool will be unable to offer.
Would you like to see Christian Benteke at Stamford Bridge next season?
