Jeffrey Bruma was a player of much promise when he was coming through the ranks at Stamford Bridge. The defender however failed to break into the Chelsea’s first team plans. Bruma saw his career stagnate over time following of a series of loans at clubs such as Hamburg and Leicester.
Since leaving Chelsea permanently, Bruma has starred for PSV Eindhoven and has made over 30 appearances in the Eredivisie. He has delivered a clear message for Chelsea’s young stars, warning them that their chance may never come otherwise.
Speaking in the Daily Mirror, Bruma said: “Every pre-season, players come back from loans with the hope of being in the first-team squad, but you have to realise that you are maybe in fifth spot for your position,” Bruma went on to add: “You have to make a point to play every week to progress – maybe in a different league, or a different country.”
“The players who come in for £20million obviously have more chances to play than a young player. “But if you go on loan you have to make goals you need to achieve. At Chelsea I’ve seen players go to League Two clubs and even there stay on the bench.”
