Following reports out of Spain that first-year Chelsea striker Diego Costa was unhappy and struggling to acclimate to life in London, a report from The Telegraph suggests that the club will give the 26-year-old a chance to recover both physically and mentally this summer.
Costa has reportedly struggled to settle in to life in the English capital, and ongoing frustrations from a recurring hamstring injury have not helped his efforts to learn the English language since his move from Atlético Madrid last summer. According to the Telegraph report, Costa also split up with his girlfriend following his transfer move to West London, which has not helped matters either.
Chelsea, who paid £32 million for the Brazilian-born striker, will reportedly reject any offers from Atléti to buy him back this summer, and the club will afford Costa ample time this summer to recharge his batteries in an attempt to have him in peak shape by the start of the 2015-16 season.
Despite his hamstring troubles and ongoing acclimation process, Costa starred on the pitch for his new team in a 2014-15 campaign that saw the Blues haul in the Premier League title and the Capital One Cup trophy to boot. The Spanish international scored 20 goals in just 26 appearances in his first Premier League go-round.
Understandably, the hamstring issue has caused Costa to lose some confidence in his body, as the injury has reared its head multiple times over the course of the last year since it first came about during Atlético’s run to the UEFA Champions League Final last in 2014. The Chelsea training staff is adamant that Costa’s hamstring will not require surgery, and the staff believes that the summer training program it will give the forward will prove effective in combination with the rest that should help him enter pre-season in a better state of mind.
