Charles Aránguiz is a well known figure in South American football where he currently plays for Internacional of Brazil. However, his profile in Europe has risen considerably with a string of impressive performances for his national side, Chile, at both the World Cup and most recently the Copa América. Now the man known as ‘the Prince’ has now been making the newspapers in Europe, namely in France and England. According to Ed Malyon of the Mirror, the player is awaiting offers from the Premier League.
It is understood that both Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring the developments of the industrious Chilean midfielder after a formal bid was submitted from Marseille. The bid came of little surprise as Marseille coach, Marcelo Bielsa, managed Aránguiz during his time as manager of Chile. Yet to the dismay of Marseille and Bielsa, Aránguiz appears to be holding out for a bid from the Premier League as confirmed by Cesar Behling, one of the player’s representatives.
“Aranguiz prefers the Premier League. But Marseille and Ligue 1 also have a great reputation and can’t be ruled out.”
Reports earlier this week had suggested that Chelsea had agreed a fee of around £16 million for the player’s services. Whilst the figure seems accurate such reports now seem rather premature with Marseille the only club to have followed up their interest.
