Chelsea have today completed the signing of Bosnian Asmir Begovic. The goalkeeper has signed from Premier League side Stoke City.
The deal has been in the pipeline for some time following Petr Cech’s departure, something that has been rumoured from January through to today. Stoke have also acquired Marco Van Ginkel on loan.
The Bosnian has spent the last five years at Stoke following a move from struggling Portsmouth. Begovic has massively benefited from the regular first team minutes and is now one of the better goalkeepers in the league.
After choosing to play for the Canadian youth sides, Begovic has now earned 41 international caps for Bosnia & Herzegovina and was their starting goalkeeper in last summer’s World Cup, which saw him attract a lot of attention across Europe.
But it’s Chelsea who have secured the signing of the 28-year old who will fill a home-grown spot and provide competition for current number one, Thibaut Courtois.
