The £32m signing proved to be on the big turning points for Chelsea. The Spaniard added goals, power and a fear factor the Chelsea side upon his arrival from La Liga. Costa needed no time to settle into life at Chelsea, scoring goals in pre-season, as well as a goal in the club’s opening game against Burnley. A year on from the day the club announced his arrival, here are five of his best goals from last season.
5 – Newcastle (H)
A very well taken goal against a struggling Newcastle. After coming in from the left, it looked like Diego may lay on a pass to Willian, however the Spaniard only had one thing on his mind. His low driven shot back across goal left Tim Krul with no chance.
4 – Everton (A)
The goal from a game that had it all! After a delicately and unusual back heel from John Obi Mikel, Costa left Sylvain Distin red faced with a well-timed step over before finding the back of the net with a low driven shot beating Tim Howard.
3 – West Ham (H)
After receiving a kick pass to feet from Eden Hazard, Diego still had a lot to do. With 3 West Ham defenders surrounding him, his great footwork beat all three and he found the corner from the net just inside the edge of the area.
2 – West Brom (H)
Despite looking marginally offside, the goal at home to West Brom stood. Costa showed fantastic technique to control a whipped cross from Oscar. Costa found space in the box to bring the ball down on his chest and volley home.
1 -Arsenal (H)
The goal against Arsene Wenger’s side secured all three points for the Blues at Stamford Bridge. Assisted by none other than Cesc Fabregas’ over the top through ball. Costa took the ball down brilliantly on his chest and just when it looked like it was getting away from him, the delicate chip over the out rushing Wojciech Szczesny left the Arsenal ‘keeper stranded.
