It is strange to say that Oscar has just started his first full pre-season with Chelsea, despite joining after the club’s victory in Munich way back in 2012. International duty and injuries have kept him away from Chelsea during pre-season. Back in 2012, he represented Brazil at the Olympics, the Confederations Cup in 2013 and the famous 2014 World Cup the following year. If it wasn’t for his injury that he sustained at the end of the season, he would still be on holiday following Brazil’s Copa America inclusion.
The midfielder has revealed he is hopeful of scoring more goals in the upcoming campaign. Oscar had a mixed season last year, struggling towards the end of the season. He has even been linked with a move away from the club.
Speaking on the club’s official website, he said: “This is the first time I have started pre-season and for me this is very, very important,” He went on too say: “It is important to stay with the family and friends and the full holiday for me this time is very important because for five years I didn’t have that holiday, and in the last three years I played more than 200 games and this is a lot.”
Mourinho himself has high expectations for the midfielder next season. He has revealed that he thinks Oscar can emulate star man, Eden Hazard. He said: “Now, because he’s injured he’s not going to the Copa America and I have a feeling that next year Oscar can have the same kind of evolution as [Eden] Hazard had this season,”
Oscar discussed his own desire to improve next season. He said: “I want to play better and I want to score more goals and to play my best football, because I know my quality and I know for sure I can make this season better than last season, and last season was a good season because we were champions and won two competitions.”
