John Stones has reportedly told Roberto Martinez, he wants to leave Everton to pursue his career should the chance arise.
According to John Richardson of the Sunday Express Sport, John Stones has set his sight on leaving Everton in an aim to progress and develop his game. The English defender is hoping to seal a move away to Chelsea or possibly Manchester United, who have reportedly joined the race to sign the defender.
Stones is hoping to develop his game with the 2016 Euro’s in mind. Stones reportedly believes that a move to Stamford Bridge could help him push himself into becoming a regular under Roy Hodgson.
Everton dealt the Premier League champions a blow after rejecting an initial £20m bid for the player. After Jose Mourinho himself confirmed the club’s interest, a second bid is likely, which could be anywhere in the region of £32-36m. Despite Martinez not being happy with the way Chelsea have reportedly handled their approach.
Should Stones jump ship, he could become the most expensive defender in the Premier League’s history.
