As soon as I learnt that BackPage Press were releasing the book on Diego Costa, I could not wait to get my hands on it. I was not disappointed to say the least.
The eye-opening book takes you through the life of Diego Costa. Fran Guillen does an excellent job of taking you on a journey of his professional career, with stops in Portugal, applying his trade in the ‘League of Honour’ then on to the Spanish divisions. With numerous loans, leading to his eventual rise to the Atletico first team.
Along the way, you travel on the striker’s emotional roller coaster as he grows into Chelsea’s lethal striker from the uncontrollable talented young player from Brazil.
You will definitely learn a thing or two in this book that may just change the way you see Costa as a person. With any luck, opposing fans will too, rather than seeing him as the bad guy who is looking to cause trouble every game.
The book sheds light on the striker’s attitude, his upbringing in Brazil and the struggles he came through to reach the level he is at.
I think the best way to summarise the book and Diego Costa for that matter is with the simple quote from the beginning of the book. Upon meeting his new Chelsea team-mates for the first time, Costa simply said: “I go to war, you come with me”.
