Speaking in his first interview with Chelsea Football Club, Baba Rahman has revealed exactly why he has joined The Blues and looks forward to the season ahead.
The young left-back has expressed delight in completing his transfer and is targeting nothing but success during this campaign.
“I’m very happy to be here and I’m really looking forward to meeting my team-mates and getting started,” the young Ghanaian said.
“My main aim is to win trophies for the club. Obviously Chelsea won the Premier League last season and I hope we can repeat that, and do even more. That’s what I hope to achieve.”
Rahman will become just the third player from Ghana to join Chelsea, following in the footsteps of Christian Atsu and Michael Essien. There is no doubt that warm words from the pair certainly influenced his decision.
“I spoke with both of them and they were very positive about Chelsea. They told me it was a great club with very nice people, which was good to hear.”

The defender also opened up a little more about his playing style, and how well suited he is to the Premier League.
“I’m a left-back and, as a defender, it’s important for me to be strong in the tackle, which I always try to be. I also like to get forward as much as possible and help the team in attack.”
“In the Premier League there is a heavy emphasis on getting up and down the pitch, which I like to do.”
Rahman even answered some personal questions during the interview, explaining why he has chosen to have ‘Baba’ on the back of his shirt, rather than his surname.
“It’s because my dad’s name is Baba, I love my dad so that’s the reason. He’s a Chelsea supporter so he’s very happy and proud.”
His versatility may be useful to Mourinho this season, as the left-back also revealed that on previous occasions, he has played further up the pitch.
“I can play as a winger but I haven’t played in midfield for a while. I played on the left wing in Germany for Greuther Furth not so long ago and scored two goals in the game, but the next day I left for Augsburg.”
Rahman could make his debut for Chelsea on Sunday, likely giving a new and exciting dynamic to Mourinho’s the back line.
