Chelsea football club is on the verge of reaching an agreement to buy AFC Wimbledon’s ground, Kingsmeadow Stadium according to Get West London.
The report suggests that Chelsea are close to agreeing the purchase and the deal is expected to be confirmed later this month. The League Two side is currently leasing the stadium from the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thame as they continue their revival in the Football League.
Wimbledon is thought to be hoping for planning to go ahead on a new 11,000 seater stadium, which will be partly funded by the sale of the current stadium to the Premier League champions.
Chelsea’s plan is thought to be to use the stadium as a new home ground for their women’s teams and youth teams respectively. The Blues will pay £600,000 upfront with another two installments at a later date.
As a result of the deal, Chelsea has also agreed to play two friendlies against the Dons once the new stadium is completed. Chelsea faced Wimbledon in pre-season last season, the current Premier League champions ran out 3-2 winners, thanks to goals from John Terry and Mohamed Salah.
