Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has been keen to point out where the actual problem for Chelsea really is this season.
Jose Mourinho’s men fell to their third defeat of this Premier League season on Saturday, losing 3-1 at Goodison Park to Roberto Martinez’s Everton. Steven Naismith punished the current champions for yet another disappointing performance.
The loss on Saturday came after a shock defeat at Stamford Bridge just before the international break as Alan Pardew took his Crystal Palace side up to west London and claimed three points winning 1-2.
On Monday Night Football, Neville was keen to analyse where the problem is currently situated in the Blues’ side, pinpointing the likes of Nemanja Matic who, despite scoring a special goal on the weekend, has shown nothing like the rock solid performances he made last season.
There’s no way in my mind that Nemanja Matic would ever allow anyone out of that space last season, the former Manchester United defender said.
He would have been aggressive and made the tackle.
This Chelsea back four, that we knew if they were exposed could potentially have problems, are now having problems, Neville stressed.
Jose Mourinho will fully be expecting his side to return to winning ways on Wednesday as they welcome Maccabi Tel Aviv to Stamford Bridge in the Champions League opener.
