Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to drop three players for their Champions League opener against Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to the Daily Star.
Cesc Fabregas, Branislav Ivanovic and Diego Costa are all facing being dropped as Mourinho looks to change The Blues’ fortunes around.
The defending Premier League champions have just won one of their opening five games so far this season and are already 11 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
It is their worst start to a top-flight campaign in 29 years and even at this early stage, it looks unlikely that they will win back-to-back league titles.
Fabregas, Ivanovic and Costa are all under threat of starting tomorrow night’s game on the bench or possibly not even being included in the matchday squad.
Fabregas played in all six group games last season in the Champions League, whilst Ivanovic was only absent when qualification was secured for Mourinho’s Chelsea. Striker Diego Costa missed two games because of injury.
Mourinho is looking to give his players a rest with the hope that the introduction of some different players will get his side a much-needed win.
