Chelsea set to swoop in on Real Madrid defender

There could be light at the end of the tunnel that is the Branislav Ivanovic era, according to the Daily Express.

Following Ivanovic’s woeful start to the season, it doesn’t appear as if Jose Mourinho seems too keen on re-signing the Serbian right back when his contract ends at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

According to the report, Mourinho wants to raid his former club to sign Spanish right-back Dani Carvajal.

Madrid signed former Porto right back Danilo in order to provide competition on the right side of the defence, and could push Carvajal towards the exit door.

Carvajal signed an extension at the end of last season that will see his current contract expire in 2020.

The Blues are expected to make an offer in the region of £14 million, but it will likely take much more to pry the Spaniard from the Spanish capital given his role in the squad and current contract.
