Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has left her post after being left out in the cold since the opening day of the season. The club have since been told that Carneiro wouldn’t have quit if manager Jose Mourinho had simply apologised to her.
Blues’ boss Mourinho criticised both Carneiro and head physio Jon Fearn after they rushed onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard, who had gone down injured. The treatment to the Belgium international meant he had to leave the pitch, which left Chelsea with only nine players on the field.
The Portuguese manager called the pair ‘impulsive and naive’ and both were stripped of their duties in matches. Whilst Fearn has carried on working for the club, Carneiro has not been present, even at the training ground, and after quitting today, she is reportedly contemplating filing a lawsuit against the club.
In light of today’s news, many people have come forward to express their concern on the matter. Heather Rabbatts, a board member of the FA, has come out to make her ‘sadness and anger’ about Carneiro’s ‘effective dismissal’ for doing her job known.
Anna Kessel, co-founder and chair of Women in football, has also been angered and said ‘She should have been straight back to work with an apology from Mourinho’.
Nobody knows what’s quite next for the club, as they prepare for potential backlashes from both the Diego Costa and Carneiro situations.
A Chelsea spokesman refused to comment on internal staffing matters when queried.
