The Express are reporting that Loic Remy has said that he can be just as physical as Spanish forward Diego Costa.
Diego Costa is currently serving a three-match ban imposed by the FA following several incidents involving the striker when Chelsea faced Arsenal at the weekend.
Remy came in last night and scored in Chelsea’s 4-1 over Walsall in the Capital One Cup.
Remy scored nine goals last season with limited game time and looks likely to be Chelsea’s first-choice forward for the next two games of Costa’s ban with Falcao still out of form for the London side.
Chelsea face Remy’s former side Newcastle at the weekend as they look for a fourth win on the bounce versus the Premier League struggler’s. Chelsea have struggled so far in the Premier League, and it could be a good opportunity for Remy to fire Chelsea to winning ways in the Premier League.
Speaking about whether he can fill Costa’s physical presence up front, the Frenchman said:
I don’t have a choice. I have to do it because when you play for Chelsea it’s a question of giving the best, 100 percent every game. Of course I will do the best I can.
I just play the way I play. I don’t put pressure on myself because I know my quality. The manager knows he can use me as a striker or out wide, so I don’t have any pressure. I just want to feel better and now with the games coming, maybe now I will have the opportunity to play more.
We will miss Diego because he is so important to the team and to winning games, but whoever is on the pitch we try to do the best we can. It’s a shame to have lost him for these games.
It’s really difficult to come off the bench and just play the occasional game. I can’t lie, the rhythm is not the same. When you come in you just need to do your best. When you are not playing much it is more difficult to do that.
I cannot complain, I want to play and when the manager gives me a chance I just try to score and give assists.
Do you think that Remy can come in and fulfill not only Costa’s physical presence but also his clinical performances in front of goal? Comment below.
